PEG-MGF

Other Research compound (not approved for human use)

Pegylated IGF-1 splice-variant peptide · also known as Pegylated Mechano Growth Factor, PEG MGF

For reference only — not medical advice. Figures are commonly reported values compiled from published sources and may be wrong or out of date. Many compounds listed are not approved for human use. Talk to a licensed clinician before using any compound.

PEG-MGF is the MGF E-domain peptide chemically linked to polyethylene glycol (PEG). Native MGF is cleared within minutes; pegylation is meant to lengthen the time it stays active so that it can act systemically. Evidence is almost entirely preclinical.

Commonly reported reconstitution steps

  1. Vials are usually brought to room temperature (about 15-20 minutes) first.
  2. 3 mL of bacteriostatic water is added slowly down the inside wall of the 2 mg vial.
  3. The vial is swirled gently until clear, not shaken.
  4. This gives 0.67 mg/mL. Mixed vials are typically labeled with the date and refrigerated.

Storage

Before mixing: Sealed vials are commonly stored refrigerated (2-8 °C) and protected from light, or frozen for long-term storage.

After mixing: Reconstituted solution is commonly kept refrigerated (2-8 °C), protected from light, and not frozen.

Commonly used within 28 days of mixing.

How it works

The peptide is thought to act like MGF, signaling muscle satellite cells toward activation and proliferation after damage. PEG slows proteolysis and renal clearance but may also change how the peptide binds its targets.

Researched for

  • Studied in rodent and cell models of muscle injury and satellite cell activation.
  • Investigated for cytokine and macrophage responses during muscle repair with MGF overexpression.
  • Studied alongside the parent MGF peptide to compare short-acting and long-acting forms.

Notes

  • No controlled human trials were located; published work is preclinical.
  • Reference charts show higher per-dose amounts than for unmodified MGF, in a 2 mg vial.
  • PEG attachment can provoke antibody formation in some contexts; long-term effects are unknown.
